~The reason for the steel mill strike was because conditions in the steel mills were extremely dangerous and workers were working 12 hour days ~350,00 workers walked off the job when their demands were not met ~Because William Z Foster was involved in the strike management claimed that it was led by radicals ~the steel companies hired strike breakers and 18 people were killed and hundreds more were wounded ~the strike was broken in January 1920 ~in 1923 a report was published on the harsh working conditions and the steel companies agreed to 8 hour work days
